Maruti Suzuki rolled out its 10th millionth car (1 Crore Cars) on March 15th 2011 and joined the select club of automobile manufacturers like Toyota , Honda, GM , Suzuki , Ford, Renault and Volkswagen . Maruti is the first Indian company to achieve this feat.
Maruti which started its operations in 1983 with Maruti 800 and rolled out Wagon R Vxi as its 10th million car. May be 90% of these 10 million cars are below the range of 5 lakhs , Maruti may be the first car manufacturer in the world to sell this large quantity of small cars which made made cars very affordable to we Indians.
Maruti sold its 1 millionth car in 1994 and 5 millionth car in 1997. So it took 24 years to sell million cars where as next 5 million cars were sold in just 13 years. This ca be one of the indicators of India's economic growth story.
