I did a quick read up and here is the list of Smart Phone OS according to their market share.
1. Android
- Based On Linux.
- Developed by Android Inc (acquired by Google) .
- Released by OHSA (Open Hand Set Alliance , comprising of Samsung, Google, Motorola, LG, Intel, Dell, HTC and Sony).
- Has a unbeatable world wide market share of 70%.
- Popular phones : Samsung Galaxy , LG Optimus, HTC Desire, Motorola Razr and Sony Xperia.
- Based on Unix.
- Developed and released by Apple Inc.
- Has a very good market share of 21%.
- Popular Phone : Need not say :) It is "The i Phone ".
- QNX based, which is internally Unix based.
- Developed and released by Blackberry (previously RIM).
- Not so impressive market share of 3%, mostly because of enterprise and business costumers I guess.
- Popular Phone : Recently released Blackberry 10.
- Developed by Microsoft.
- Most important vendor is Nokia
- 2.5% market share . Sad to see Nokia which used to be biggest player in feature phone reduced to almost 2.5 %.
- Popular Phone: Nokia Lumia
- Developed by alliances between Samsung and Intel or by organizations such as Mozilla.
- Trying to provide alternate options to Android.
- 3 % market share altogether.
- Not sure which is very popular phone.
- Most of the Smart phone OS are either Linux or Unix based except for Windows.
- Android + iOS share 91% market share, and Nokia not doing any of these phones might not help it . Nokia needs to capture consumers with out of box ideas, else it will have tough time.
